Sometimes the best way to find yourself… is to get a little lost in the adventures of travel.
Life is a journey, right?
And sometimes, to figure things out—we need to leave. Not forever. Just… get away for a bit.
I’m about to head out on a 10-day tour around Hokkaido with a Hawaiian group—so excited to see the sakura at Matsumae Castle and Goryokaku, and even heading all the way up to Asahikawa!
But this isn’t just about travel—it’s about what distance gives us.
🧠 Sometimes when we step away from our usual routine, we finally have a moment to ask:
“Wait… what’s the real problem here?”
Or even better—“Was that even a problem at all?”
✨ Travel gives us new vision. New ideas. New direction.
📌 Mental Health Tip:
How many days does it take to reset your mind?
Some studies say just 3 days away from your regular environment can help recharge your brain and improve mood. But even a 1-day trip can work wonders! I know in Japan that can feel impossible for some people… But how about trying to take some time off away from work or commitments at least once a week, then once in a while try to plan to take 3 days + off. If you want to stay healthy both mentally and physically, on and off times like that are extremely important. Have confidence that rest will make you stronger when you are back on for work-mode. Same goes for moms: try to find some alone time to refresh and reset!!
So what’s on your travel bucket list?
I’ve been meaning to visit Miura Ayako’s Literature Museum in Asahikawa for years – and I finally made it the other day! It inspired me to tears seeing her writing journey and relationship with her husband. She was a Japanese Christian fiction author based in Hokkaido.
Don’t let money or time stop you forever. Even short, local trips in Hokkaido or nearby Asia can totally refresh your soul and give you a new perspective!

“See A Victory” by Elevation Worship
Great reminder that God sees what we can’t see yet—and the best is still coming.
Sometimes we look too closely at our own problems. It’s like staring at a small puzzle piece in the big puzzle picture of our whole lives. If we look at what’s going on in our lives right now, that’s just a small perspective of what our whole lives are actually all about. So, taking a step back and trying to see it from God’s perspective, or taking a step away for a while and trying to understand it from a distance, can be a huge benefit and be revolutionary to how you look at that same problem. From a distance, it might look small after all. You might even think, “That’s not a problem for me anymore.”
So wherever you’re listening from—home, a train, or your own trip—take a deep breath, and ask yourself:
“What’s one new place I want to explore next?”
It might just be the first step to new clarity.
