We were made to thrive!

Good morning everyone! This is Isis from Sapporo. Every Sunday morning, I share short topics to encourage you for the week ahead. I’m from Canada, and in Japan I do radio, television and event MCs. My hope is through this English and Japanese show you could learn some new language phrases, and also be blessed through the weekly short stories! Welcome to bless your mind!

It’s harvest season~

I live in Hokkaido, and a lot of vegetables and plants are being harvested now, lining the supermarkets. They taste sweet and delicious. Imagine Sapporo soup curry with all of those vegetables. Mmm!

I don’t live on a farm, but my family and I tried planting some vegetables this year in our small garden. We planted mini tomatoes, mini carrots, eggplants, green peppers, and wild strawberries. We tried potatoes and cucumbers, but they died… maybe next year? Harvesting the vegetables is a lot of fun! It tastes extra good when you do it yourselves.

With the carrots we planted them from seeds, that was great! And it reminded me of this thought for another episode of Bless Your Mind:

If you don’t plant any seeds, there’s no chance for any harvest, so keep planting those seeds!

In other words, if you don’t try it, you’ll never know if you could succeed or not. Especially big projects or big dreams. Sometimes it starts as a small seed. A small thought in your heart. “That would be nice… One day…”

But planting the seed would be taking some kind of action. Maybe taking a course or talking to someone about it. Asking for advice from others who have done it before you.

Then, water the seed – keep going. Don’t give up. Some plants take months, others take years before they finally fruit! It takes hard work and dedication. Sometimes it’s dirty. You got to get down on your knees and dig in the dirt. You can’t just plant it and expect it to grow!

So what seeds are you planting in your life?

...

The song for this week is “Thrive” by Casting Crowns 豊かな実り

The lyrics are:

We were made for so much more than ordinary lives
It’s time for us to more than just survive
We were made to thrive

私たちはただ普通に生きるだけのために作られていなくて
生き残るよりももっとやるべきの時がきた
私たちは豊かな実りのために作られている

So, one of my eggplants didn’t produce any fruits at first. It was healthy and green, but nothing to eat. Its purpose is to produce food, so after some extra care into it, finally it made plenty of eggplants. We’re the same. We were made to thrive, to produce fruit in our lives. But sometimes we need to be conscious of it and take care to plant those seeds, and keep watering it. Right? You don’t want bad seeds like anger, resentment, jealousy or complaining. You want good seeds of peace, forgiveness, integrity, and love. So get rid of any weeds, and keep only the fruits in your life!

That’s all for this week. Were you encouraged? Maybe you need to do some garden weeding before you can see the fruit in your life? Or maybe you want to start being intentional about planting good seeds? Whatever you reap, you will harvest! Keep going, don’t give up.

Do you plant any fruits or vegetables? Or do you have any questions or comments about the show? I’d love to hear from you. Please use the google form in the podcast description, or check my website iwberns.com or my instagram @iwberns
